MSI is NOT impressed with 14th Gen Core Series

MSI, a major PC hardware manufacturer, has expressed disappointment with Intel's upcoming 14th Gen Core series of processors. The company leaked a video that revealed that the new CPUs will see no major core count upgrades, and will only provide higher DDR5 frequency support. MSI also confirmed that Intel 14th Gen Core is only 3% faster on average compared to the current-gen series.

The only major upgrade to the 14th Gen Core series is the Core i7-14700K, which will have 12 Efficient cores instead of 8. This will give it a 17% boost in multi-threaded performance. However, the other CPUs in the series will not see any significant improvements.

Intel is scheduled to officially announce the 14th Gen Core series at Innovation 2023 in September. However, MSI's leak has already dampened expectations for the new CPUs.

Here are some additional thoughts:

  • The lack of major core count upgrades is a disappointment, as it means that the 14th Gen Core series will not offer a significant performance boost over the current-gen series.
  • The higher DDR5 frequency support is a welcome improvement, but it is not enough to make up for the lack of core count upgrades.
  • The 17% boost in multi-threaded performance for the Core i7-14700K is significant, but it is only available on one CPU in the series.
  • Overall, the 14th Gen Core series is a bit of a letdown. It does not offer the major performance improvements that many were hoping for.
