How To FIX a Keyboard that Stops Working or Responding - WINDOWS 11 & 10 Keyboard FIX

Published on 22 September 2023 at 14:58

If your keyboard stops working or responding in Windows 11 or 10, there are a few things you can try to fix it.

  1. Check the physical connection. Make sure that your keyboard is properly plugged into your computer. If you are using a wireless keyboard, make sure that it is turned on and that the batteries are not dead.
  2. Restart your computer. A simple restart can often fix minor software glitches that may be causing your keyboard to malfunction.
  3. Run the keyboard troubleshooter. Windows includes a built-in troubleshooter that can help you diagnose and fix keyboard problems. To run the troubleshooter:
    • Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters.
    • Click Keyboard and then click Run the troubleshooter.
    • Follow the instructions on the screen to troubleshoot the problem.
  4. Update or reinstall your keyboard driver. An outdated or corrupted keyboard driver can cause your keyboard to stop working or responding. To update or reinstall your keyboard driver:
    • Go to Device Manager.
    • Expand the Keyboards category.
    • Right-click on your keyboard and select Update driver or Uninstall device.
    • If you selected Update driver, follow the instructions on the screen to update your driver.
    • If you selected Uninstall device, restart your computer and Windows will automatically reinstall the driver.
  5. Try a different keyboard. If you have tried all of the above steps and your keyboard is still not working, try connecting a different keyboard to your computer. If the different keyboard works, then the problem is most likely with your original keyboard.
  6. Contact the manufacturer of your keyboard. If you have tried all of the above steps and your keyboard is still not working, contact the manufacturer of your keyboard for further assistance.
